Attic apartment
HAMBURG

The maisonette apartment on the 4th and 5th floors features a spacious, open-plan living room with a ceiling height of 3.80 m. Since the unavoidable view of the stairs to the basement creates a sense of latent unease, we visually concealed the stairs by covering the railing and contrasting the adjacent walls in a dark blue. The dark-stained oak parquet flooring grounds the otherwise very bright space. The adjacent kitchen floor contrasts the heaviness of the living room floor with a nearly white octagonal tile with a natural finish.

A central design element, which is also found in other rooms, is fabric-covered doors. Since curtains are not possible due to the sloping skylights, we brought a sense of texture and softness into the rooms. The spacious sofa area designed by Tim Löhr also creates a soft contrast to the cubist-looking lines of the boxed-off roof truss structure. At the center of the kitchen is the 3.5m-long dining table designed by Tim Löhr, consisting of a powder-coated steel frame and three solid oak planks. The fireplace we installed on the central wall draws attention away from the stairs and ensures cozy evenings.
